Something You Might Not Know About Me…

I'm a Lifelong Marimekko Fan
Every designer has their “first love” — that early spark that made them fall head over heels for design. For me, that love has always been Marimekko. From the moment I was drawn into the world of interiors, colour, and form, their bold and graphic prints captured my imagination… and honestly, they still do.

Marimekko, with its unapologetic use of colour and iconic prints, especially the Unikko flower, speaks the same visual language. It’s playful, optimistic, and full of character — just like pop art, but wearable, livable, and yes, collectable.
And collect I do!
Let’s just say my Unikko mug collection has become a bit of a thing in our household. Every time a new colourway is released, I simply must have it. Morning coffee, a quick breakfast moment, or an evening tea — it’s a small ritual made brighter by a cheerful mug I adore. My kids may roll their eyes, especially since I’ve now expanded into the black and white plate collection (“Mum, do we really need more plates?”)… but for me, it brings joy.

It also brings a quiet sense of connection to my European roots. There’s something familiar and nostalgic in these designs — a cultural thread that ties back to where I came from and how I grew up surrounded by quality, craft, and pattern. In many ways, Marimekko feels like home.
There’s something so lovely about collecting something that means something to you. It doesn’t need to be grand or expensive — it just needs to spark that little light inside. For me, it’s bold blooms and graphic stripes.
Marimekko reminds me every day that good design can be both functional and fun.
Oh — and don’t get me started on their clothing… Let’s just say I’ve got a soft spot for a statement print dress.
