Textiles are one of the easiest ways to transform a room, adding warmth, texture, and personality in an instant. Whether through cushions, throws, rugs, or upholstery, layering fabrics can make a space feel inviting and lived-in, without the need for a complete overhaul.

One of my favourite styling tricks is using double-sided cushions—covering each side with a different fabric. This simple change allows you to shift the mood of a room in a whim. Imagine a soft linen on one side for a breezy summer feel and a rich velvet on the other for a cozy winter vibe.
If upholstering your sofa or armchair in a bold, patterned fabric feels like too big of a commitment, consider a less permanent approach. Buy just 2 meters of a fabric you love and drape it over the back of your sofa. It adds a layered, collected look, introduces colour and texture, and allows you to test a pattern in your space before making a bigger investment.

Mixing different textiles—like linen with wool, or cotton with silk—creates depth and interest.
A neutral room can come alive with the right mix of patterns and textures, while a bold space can feel more refined with the addition of soft, grounding elements.
So next time your space feels a little flat, start with textiles. A simple fabric swap can change everything.
